pictures 1 - london --> york (mostly york)

view out london window

view out york window ("lovely" back garden!)

bits of the walk into town - real live cobblestones - and helpful walk lights at intersections (cuts down on the flattened tourist count)

and iron work as a part of the landscape.  Lots of fencing of front gardens - but most at a height so the residents can see out - and passers can enjoy the garden

THE MINSTER

inside - long shot down the nave - seeing actually only about 1/2 the length because of a huge tall rood screen at the crossing

the whole - a shot taken, at the suggestion of the bus tour guide - from the cafe in the marks&spencer on parliment street !

and yes, proving I was there - and in new duds as well.  And amazing... the trousers were the correct length - shorts actually were my length - (in the US I still have 4-6 inches to cut off and hem ... )  ?? do I look skinnier??

walking the wall.  Wall is a mix of stones - interesting - limestone, granite - and possibly also chalk -- and well mixed for strength.

from LONG ago - and still in use as house - not museum.  Think the only place I've seen similar in the US is georgetown or alexandria - and/but that is a few centuries later.

this is the quilt museum - basic building is a trapizoid - ..."follow the street"

couldn't take pictures in the museum itself, but could in the stairwell -- beams from 14th cen - glass elevator from 20th. .. and it works

boss in the stairway -- and didn't notice the smoke detector till now!

outside the castle museum there was a ferris wheel - or as they say here, a carousel.  goes counter-clockwise... and....

all the horses have hair (now acrylic) tails.  Is this all over? or only on Victorian carousels?  I'm coming up with quite a few wonderments...

lots of ice cream and lolly (frozen ice pops) stands - and they get lots of custom on the sunny/hot

for carlyn L

ditto...

brass band mentioned.. got ipod sound

"street performer" freehand carving names on painted lathe.  Of course I got ones for the family...

and me in the shirt that got away.  Looked fantastic on me, but didn't have my size... attention, attention, Jan & Kris ... it's not black... !
cheers to all -- have a lovely day...
