21 - 26 June - Munich

Ah yes - I am a tourist.

Had a beer and obatsa (sp?- a soft spread cheese that includes camenbert & curry powder - but not spicy) in the continuous farmer's market - correction, not a beer, a radler - 1/2 lemonade & 1/2 lager beer. Very good, very refreshing, and you can walk a straight line after lunch. Seems that all the beer has a higher % than US beer - and I'm not that much of a drinker....

Have been in all the central churches - Alte Pater (Old St. Peter's), Frauenkircke (and climbed 6 flights before the elevator to the top), Asam church (super baroque - and according to Ricky a sales pitch for the builders). All lovely, all different. Saw the Synagogue from the outside; closed to non-Jews.

Spent one long day in the art museum cluster - lovely collections, and laid out so you don't double back (LOVELY idea - take note National Gallery & Art Inst...) as you do the entire museum. Think I saw doubles of some pictures seen in Belgium? that would be odd since before the scan/print days.

I'm taking the u-bahn into the city and even going on the trams!! An all day ticket is 5.40E.

went to the zoo !! Wooded area with animals and animal houses. Big deal is the new baby elephant, and also baby bison, and giraffe. Flotillas of moms with buggies and babies in the buggies - and ramps all the way from the zoo decorated u-bahn stop....AND... on the fence on the bridge you cross to go to the zoo, scores of engraved locks, which I was told were "for love" - one wonders who keeps the key? or if it is tossed into the river?? (the latter is much more romantic)

The family's church does a number of fund raising activities - and Thursday night was quiz night. Some VERY tough questions - correction - most were VERY tough questions. The gimme for me was O'Leary's cow and Chicago, and to my credit I came up with Chishom Trail.

It hardly seems possible that I have been here a week. As said, I have been treated royally, and cannot thank them enough for hosting me.

today is Sunday - tomorrow is laundry - and tuesday I take off for London, York & day trips.

I am easing; it is very very good.
